Who we are

Save Maynard Wildlife is a group of Maynard residents dedicated to reducing the use of Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs)—a class of rat poisons—in Maynard.

While these poisons aim to control the rodent population, they also unintentionally cause the deaths rodent predators—including owls, hawks, eagles, foxes, and coyotes, as well as dogs and cats—who eat the poisoned rodents.

In areas with large and established rodent populations, such as Maynard, SGARs have proven ineffective, and because they indirectly kill rodent predators, they lead to a decrease in natural rodent control. Additionally, they fail to keep pace with the rapid reproduction rates of rodents.

Our goal is to reduce the use of SGARs in Maynard and to help the schools and town—and eventually residents and businesses—manage rodents effectively without SGARs.

We plan to present a citizen’s petition to restrict SGARs on public property in Maynard at the Spring Town Meeting. Contact us if you'd like to sign the petition, and we hope you’ll come out to vote on May 19, 2025!
